==== Opzet ====
Tchoukbal (spreek uit als: //sjoekbal//, dus zonder //t//) wordt gespeeld op een veld van 27 bij 16 meter. In de zaal kunnen hiervoor de basketbalvelden (28 bij 15 m) aangehouden worden. Aan de korte zijden van het veld is een tchouk opgesteld, Rond elke tchouk is een halve cirkel afgezet (de zogeheten //verboden zone//) met een straal van 3 meter. Tchoukbal wordt officieel gespeeld met 2 teams van 7 personen, maar bij de Stretchers wordt het doorgaans gespeeld met 2 teams van 5 personen. Als er minder dan 8 spelers zijn, kan het beste een variant met één tchouk en recht-van-aanval worden gespeeld. Als bal wordt een handbal gebruikt.

=== De basis ===
Tchoukbal heeft twee regels die de sport heel anders laten voelen dan andere sporten. Hierdoor loopt het spel bij beginners vaak wat stroef, maar naarmate de spelers meer aan de bijzondere regels wennen wordt tchoukbal een snel en tactisch spel. De twee regels die de tchoukbal anders maken dan andere sporten zijn:
  - Beide teams mogen aan beide kanten scoren en;
  - Het verdedigende team mag de bal niet onderscheppen.

Het spelverloop bij tchoukbal gaat als volgt. Eén team is het aanvallende team en gaat proberen te scoren. Scoren doet men door van buiten de verboden zone de bal in de tchouk te gooien, waarna de bal terug het veld in stuitert en daar de grond raakt. Bijzonder is dus dat het aanvallende team aan beide kanten van het veld mag scoren. Het andere team is het verdedigende team. Zij mogen de onderlinge passes van het aanvallende team niet onderscheppen; ze kunnen alleen verdedigen door wanneer het aanvallende team probeert te scoren de uit de tchouk terug stuiterende bal te vangen. De bal raakt dan niet de grond en er is dus geen punt gescoord.

Als het verdedigende team de bal succesvol heeft gevangen, worden zij het nieuwe aanvallende team. Ook zij mogen dus aan beide kanten scoren, en dus ook aan de kant waar zojuist een poging tot scoren is gedaan. Er moet echter wel eerst minimaal één keer overgegooid worden totdat het team mag proberen te scoren. Daarnaast geldt dat als er drie keer achter elkaar bij dezelfde tchouk is geprobeerd te scoren, de volgende poging bij de andere tchouk gedaan moet worden. 

=== De bal uitnemen: de zero-ball ===
Als het aanvallende team een punt heeft gescoord, mag het verdedigende team de bal uitnemen: zij worden dus het nieuwe aanvallende team. Het uitnemen gebeurt aan de achterlijn aan de kant waar het punt gescoord werd. De eerste pass wordt een //zero-ball// genoemd: deze telt namelijk niet mee voor het maximum aantal passes. Dat maximum aantal passes is drie en daarna moet een poging tot scoren gedaan worden. Na het uitnemen van de bal mag het aanvallende team dus nog maximaal drie keer overgooien voordat ze moeten proberen te scoren. Om het spel dynamischer te maken is het ook toegestaan om met de bal drie stappen te zetten. Belangrijk is echter wel dat na een zero-ball de bal over de middellijn moet zijn geweest voordat er gescoord kan worden. 

=== Wat telt als scoren? ===
Zoals hierboven beschreven scoort het aanvallende team door de bal zo in de tchouk te gooien dat hij in het veld terug stuitert. Het verdedigende team probeert te voorkomen dat de bal de grond raakt door de bal te vangen. Als het verdedigende team de bal echter weer laat vallen, of als de bal een verdedigende speler onder de knie raakt, is het altijd een punt voor het aanvallende team. 

Tegelijkertijd kan het verdedigende team scoren doordat het aanvallende team een bal verkeerd gooit. Zo is het een punt voor het verdedigende team als de bal uit de tchouk in de verboden zone of buiten het veld landt. Ook krijgt het verdedigende team een punt als het aanvallende team de bal op het frame van de tchouk gooit of de tchouk zelfs volledig mist. Als het verdedigende team scoort, mag het aanvallende team uitnemen, waardoor zij dus door gaan als het aanvallende team.

==== Overtredingen ====

Bepaalde acties zijn niet toegestaan en worden bestraft met balbezit voor het andere team, dat daarmee het nieuwe aanvallende team wordt. Dit balbezit wordt begonnen met een //breakdown//, waarbij een speler op de plaats van overtreding de bal met beide handen op de grond drukt om duidelijk te maken dat het spel herstart. Vanaf dit punt heeft het aanvallende team weer maximaal drie passes voordat ze moeten proberen te scoren. Het is echter geen zero-ball, waardoor de bal niet over de middellijn geweest hoeft te zijn voordat er gescoord mag worden. De volgende zaken tellen als overtreding:
  * De bal raakt de grond;
  * De bal raakt een gedeelte van het lichaam onder de knie;
  * De speler met de bal heeft meer dan drie contactpunten met de grond;
  * De bal buiten het veld gooien;
  * Als verdedigend team het aanvallende team blokkeren wanneer die de bal ontvangt, schiet of zichzelf positioneert om de bal te onvangen;
  * Als verdedigend team een pass of schot van het aanvallende team raken voordat die de tchouk raakt;
  * Als aanvallend team vier of meer achtereenvolgende passes maken;
  * Als aanvallend team na een zero-ball proberen te scoren voordat de bal over de middellijn is  geweest;
  *Als aanvallend team de bal aanraken als die terug stuitert uit de tchouk;
  * Als aanvallend team de vierde keer achter elkaar bij dezelfde tchouk proberen te scoren.

In officieel tchoukbal is het tot slot de regel dat je de bal maximaal drie seconden in bezit mag houden; langer telt als overtreding. Bij de Stretchers wordt meestal zonder deze regel gespeeld.

==== Setup ====
Tchoukball (pronounce as //chookball//, without the //t//) is played on a court of 27 by 16 metre. In the sports hall the basketball fields (28 by 15 m) can be used. A tchouk is placed on both ends of the field. A semicircle with a diameter of 3 metre (the so-called //forbidden zone//)is drawn in front of each tchouk. Officially, tchoukball is played with 2 teams of 7 players, but at the Stretchers it is usually played with 2 teams of 5 players. If there are less than 8 players, it is best to play a variant with one tchouk and right-of-attack. The used ball is a handball.

=== Basic rules ===
Tchoukball has two rules that make it stand out from other sports. Because of this, gameplay with beginners is often somewhat strained, but tchoukball becomes a fast and tactical game as players get used to the particular rules. The two rules that set tchoukball apart from other sports are:
  - Both teams can score on both sides and;
  - The defending team is not allowed to intercept the ball.

Tchoukball gameplay is as follows. One team is the attacking team and tries to score. Scoring is done by throwing the ball from outside the forbidden zone into the tchouk, from where it rebounds and touches the ground inside of the court. As mentioned before, the attacking team can sore on both sides of the field. The other team is the defending team. They can not intercept passes from the attacking team: they can only defend by catching the ball when it rebounds from the tchouk after de attacking team tried to score. This prevents the ball from touching the ground and thus no point is scored.

When the defending team has catched the ball succesfully, they become the new attacking team. Therefore they can also score on both sides, including the side where the other team just tried to score. However, they should pass the ball at least once before trying to score. Additionally, when three consecutive scoring attempts have been made at the same tchouk, the next attempt should be at the other tchouk.

=== Starting a new ball: the zero-ball ===
When the attacking team has scored a point, the defending team can start the new ball and thus becomes the new attacking team. Starting the new ball happens from the the back line of the court on the side where the point was scored. The first pass is called a //zero-ball//, because this pass does not count towards the maximum amount of passes. That maximum amount of passes is three, after which a shot on goal should be made. This means that after beginning the new ball, the attacking team can still pass a maximum of three times before they have to try to score. To make the game more dynamic, it is allowed to make three steps while having the ball. It is however important that after a zero-ball the ball has to cross the middle line before a scoring attempt can be made.

=== What counts as scoring? ===
As written above, the attacking team can score by throwing the ball into the tchouk in such a way that it rebounds into the field. The defending team tries to prevent the ball from toucheing the grond by catching it. If the defending team fails to control the ball after catching and thus drops it or if the ball hits a defending player below the knee, it is still a point for the attacking team.

Simultaneously, the defending team can score by having the attacking team making a mistake. For example, the defending team gets a point when the ball lands inside of the forbidden zone or outside of the court after rebounding from the tchouk. The defending team also receives a point when the attacking team hits the frame of the tchouk or misses the tchouk completely when trying to score. When the defending team scoring, the attacking team can start the new ball, so they continue as the attacking team. 

==== Fouls ====

Certain actions are not allowed and are penalized with ball possession for the other team, that consequently becomes the attacking team. This possession is started with a //breakdown//, for which a player pushes the ball with both hands onto the ground on the spot the foul was made to indicate that the game restarts. From this point on, the attacking team once again has a maximum of three passes before they have to try to score. However, as it is no zero-ball, the ball does not have to cross the middle line before a scoring attempt is made. The following actions count as fouls:
  * The ball touches the ground;
  * The ball touches the body below the knee;
  * The player in possession of the ball touches the ground with more than three contact points;
  * The ball is thrown out of the court;
  * As the defending team: blocking the attacking team when they receive the ball, shoot or position themselves to receive the ball;
  * As the defending team: touching a pass or shot from the attacking team before it hits the tchouk;
  * As the attacking team: making four or more consecutive passes;
  * As the attacking team: trying to score before the ball crossed the middle line after a zero-ball
  * As the attacking team: touching the ball after it rebounds from the tchouk;
  * As the attacking team: trying to score for the fourth consecutive time at the same tchouk.

Finally, it it a rule in official tchoukball that a player can only have possession of the ball for three seconds; any longer counts as a foul. At the Stretchers, tchoukball is mostly player without this rule.
